Overview of Position
-
This position supports field staff and coordinates daily functions to ensure student safety. In addition, this role assists the Transportation Director in day-to-day supervision of staff and supports department objectives.

Essential Functions
-
30%
- Oversees the Field Staff daily operations for over 40 bus monitors and 100 crossing guards to ensure student safety.Â
- Monitors OSPI district compliance mandated by law and district policy.
25%
- Leads assigned staff, monitoring and reviewing their work, and facilitates their evaluation.Â
- Provides training and cross-training as needed.Â
- Performs yearly in-services and monthly Bus Monitor meetings.Â
- Manages daily substitute work.
10%
- Performs weekly calculation of payroll for all Adult Crossing Guards and Bus Monitors.

- Manages Head Start Routing and Audits.
5%
- Supports Intervention with training concerns.
- Recommends and implements existing and new procedures and processes.

- Interprets Transportation Office policies and procedures for field staff and the public.
- Oversees the investigation of service complaints.

- Responds to requests for information regarding transportation service operations.
- Prepares reports.
- Schedules and prioritizes staff work assignments as required to ensure student safety.

- Manages the interview process for bus monitors and crossing guards and assists in determining the selection or promotion of employees.Â
- Recommends retraining, disciplinary action and termination.

- Performs road checks for adverse weather conditions and hazards, monitors bus stops for safety and special needs accessibility.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Represents the Transportation office at various meetings as assigned.
- Facilitates section activities in Manager’s absence.
- May perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

Typical Qualifications
-
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Â
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Â
Two to three (2-3) years of Transportation experience including route planning using computerized routing software; proven experience successfully leading or supervising five or more staff; three to five (3-5) years of Transportation experience including route planning using computerized routing software and successful supervisory experience of 10 or more staff preferred; Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration or other transportation related areas of study; Associate’s degree with a working emphasis in business and customer service, and additional qualifying work experience will substitute for the education requirement on a year-by-year basis ;or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the work will be considered. Â
DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:
Ability to complete Washington State CWU Transportation Management Certification.
Valid Washington State driver’s license CDL – P1 S Endorsement & Certified Flagger Endorsement or able to obtain within 6 months. Â
