Duties:

Directly accountable for preventing hospital acquired infections related to hand-hygiene performance of self and staff
Under direct supervision, assists the operating surgeon in the care of patients in surgery and performs assigned selected duties.
Prepares for surgery in an acceptable time frame.
Prioritizes workload and prepares for the specific operative procedure utilizing appropriate Preference Care/Case Cart Requisition.
Demonstrates acceptable standards of aseptic technique when scrubbed and a working knowledge of the surgical procedure, instrumentation, supplies and equipment needed.
Responds appropriately to any unanticipated or emergency situation that may arise intra-operatively & assists with CPR of patient during cardiac arrest.
Utilizes equipment properly, according to manufacturer’s recommendation and adhering to OR protocols. Ensures OR is stocked and ready for each case.
Assures equipment is cleaned and maintained for use by the next staff member and/or patient.
Follows the hospital’s policy and procedures on discarding contaminated and hazardous materials.
Maintains established hospital policies, procedures, directives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards appropriate to this position.

EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or Equivalency
Graduate of Accredited Surgical Technology Program approved by:
CAAHEP – Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or ABHES – Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools.

CREDENTIALS + QUALIFICATIONS:
BLS by approved by AHA – American Heart Association
Surgical Technician Certification (CST) Authorized by: NBSTSA – National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting
