Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing professional nursing services for a diverse population in clinic and community settings as programmatically appropriate. The Registered Nurse works closely with a multidisciplinary team in all programs to plan, coordinate, and deliver nursing and medication management services that are recovery oriented, trauma informed, and culturally sensitive.

 

Work hours are generally 8:00am until 4:30pm Monday through Friday on site with productivity goal determined programmatically and monitored by the Nurse Manager. The Registered Nurse reports directly to the Nurse Manager or designee with overall program supervision provided by the Medical Director.

Duties/Responsibilities:

A. DELIVERY OF CLINICAL SERVICES

  1. Ensure that professional nursing services delivered in clinic office or community are culturally sensitive, trauma informed, and promote principles of recovery and consumer participation
  2. Work collaboratively with case managers, therapists, and prescribers to ensure that medication is integrated into consumer recovery plans
  3. Maintain contact with consumers to a degree sufficient to monitor and assess progress towards medication compliance as programmatically approriate
  4. Assess medical and mental status, medication effectiveness and side effects, reporting observations back to the clinical team
  5. Contribute to the functioning of the clinical teams in all programs, supporting and covering for other team members as necessary while engaged in nursing duties including answering phones, monitoring medication rooms, processing refill requests, performing nursing triage duties, and completing preparation and follow up as designated by prescribers for medication evaluations
  6. Participate in arranging crisis management services as clinically and programmatically appropriate
  7. Coordinate clinical services and assist in problem resolution around clinical issues within Journey and with outside agencies
  8. In coordination with the clinical team, assist with medication management related to hospital, program, and agency admissions and discharges as programmatically indicated
  9. Document relevant clinical information and services provided per Journey policy

 

B.  ADMINISTRATIVE

  1. Participate in program meetings and other designated program functions
  2. Accurately and promptly record hours worked, time off, and expense reports
  3. Participate in JMHC-wide training programs and community education as assigned
  4. Complete all other assignments/duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager and the Medical Director

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Education/Licensure

ESSENTIAL

  • Current licensure with the state of Wisconsin as a Registered Nurse

 

PREFERRED

  • BSN or MSN

 

Experience

ESSENTIAL

  • Extensive experience working with individuals who have mental health and/or substance use disorders or other behavioral health issues
  • Advanced knowledge of psychotropic medications
  • Ability to work collaboratively on teams with prescriber, counselors, and crisis service workers and to interact and communicate effectively with outside service organizations
  • Ability to work in collaborative relationships with a variety of disciplines and philosophies
  • Commitment to provide culturally sensitive, recovery oriented, and trauma informed services to diverse populations
  • Commitment to provide community-based services for persons with multiple needs and inadequate resources in addition to providing direct service
  • Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to be flexible and a creative participant in a changing system
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, a favorable driving record, adequate insurance (per WI law) and access to a vehicle
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing).

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Coordinate with Journey psychiatric providers and clinical staff, as well as with outside service providers and pharmacies to provide medication management services as programmatically appropriate
  • Administer long-acting injectable antipsychotic medications by subcutaneous and intramuscular route utilizing aseptic technique under direction of JMHC prescribers
  • Demonstrate professional and effective communication, time management and organizational skills
  • Communicate effectively within Journey and with outside service organizations
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of a team as a flexible and creative participant in a changing system

 

PREFERRED

  • Bilingual

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires sitting, standing, light lifting, bending, and reaching; and the ability to use and operate standard office equipment, including computer, calculator, phone, printer, cell phone, facsimile, etc.

 

Working Conditions

  • May require evening or weekend hours depending on program needs.
  • The duties of this position require presence on site
