The Corporate Communications team is part of the growing policy and advocacy communications team in Washington, D.C., and works in partnership with the Global Government Relations team, including Federal Government Relations, State Government Relations, and Regulatory Affairs. 

As a Public Affairs Communications Manager Vice President within the Corporate Communications team, you will be responsible for crafting compelling narratives, orchestrating comprehensive and integrated communications/Public Relations campaigns, and interacting with the media. Your role will also involve managing external communications/public relations and playing a pivotal role in developing and executing strategies that enhance our reputation, build trust, and advocate for the firm’s business priorities with policymakers.

 

Job responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and support strategic, integrated communications campaigns in support of a number of U.S. public policy priorities
  • Serve as an on-the-record spokesperson for the firm, and build and maintain relationships with reporters that cover financial services policy issues in the U.S.
  • Draft official, public-facing correspondences in response to key public policy issues
  • Coordinate with trade associations that represent the industry’s interests in Washington, D.C. and in state houses across the U.S.
  • Identify external engagements that allow us to share our story and shape key policy debates
  • Develop messaging and content to inform and engage elected officials, non-profit organizations and other issue-specific experts
  • Prepare senior executives for media or other public appearances related to public policy
  • Track and analyze news and social media around priority public policy issues to inform decision making on risk or reputational matters
  • Engage in crisis communications planning and response
  • Partner closely with functions across the firm to ensure alignment of messaging and strategy

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • 7+ years experience in public affairs, public relations, government relations, or advocacy/ political campaigns; financial Services industry experience and/or familiarity with financial services issues and policies
  • Excellent writing skills and strong visual storytelling design skills; exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to partner across a large, matrixed organization
  • Experience in providing counsel to senior executives or public-facing officials
  • Well-developed strategy and planning skills in media relations, preferably with strong relationships with reporters who cover financial services regulation, as well as in engagement with a diverse set of stakeholders on priority issues for the firm
  • Superior judgment, with ethics of the highest caliber
  • Fluency across social media and other multi-media channels with a proven ability to tap them to protect reputation and promote brand
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize high volume, high priority initiatives
  • Excellent crisis communications skills and ability to be articulate and calm in crisis  
  • Ability to tackle new initiatives and projects with energy, eagerness and creativity
  • A proactive, self-starter nature and strong independent worker
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Policy, Political Science, or related field of study

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

  • Capitol Hill experience a plus
