Join our team of mental health professionals at William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital, where you’ll work closely with patients, families, and community resources to support recovery and successful reintegration into the community. As a Psychiatric Social Worker, you’ll play a vital role in developing individualized treatment plans and providing comprehensive social work services.What You’ll Do:
- Provide advanced-level social work services for assigned patients in a psychiatric hospital setting.
- Work closely with treatment teams, including psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and families, to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Conduct thorough psychosocial assessments to gather detailed patient histories and information needed to guide mental health treatment.
- Collaborate with families, legal representatives, and advocates to ensure they are informed and able to support the patient’s recovery journey.
- Assist in planning patient discharges, linking them to community resources and services that meet their specific needs for a successful transition.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation, communicating findings and progress with the treatment team regularly.

Requirements:
Mandatory overtime may be required depending on the operational needs of the hospital and patients. Applicants selected for employment must successfully complete a chemical urinalysis & breath analysis drug screening test. Applicants selected must successfully complete a background check. All employees are subject to drug testing for probable cause as set forth in agency and bureau policies. This is a tobacco free campus.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Counseling, Criminal Justice, Behavioral Science, Human Services, Education, or related field from an accredited college or university.
Licensure/Certifications:
Eligible for Temporary Social Work License OR Licensed as a Social Worker, Graduate Social Worker, Provisional Social Worker, or Certified Social Worker by the West Virginia Board of Social Work Examiners.
Experience:
One (1) year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience performing social work in a healthcare setting, working directly with individuals.

Sharpe, Jr. Hospital holds accreditation from The Joint Commission and certification by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS). The hospital offers a wide range of services to patients either committed to the hospital through civil commitment or, in the case of forensic patients, ordered through the judicial system. Through ongoing collaboration with West Virginia University’s Department of Behavioral Medicine & Psychiatry, a variety of medical and clinical professionals partner with the hospital’s own staff to work diligently with patients to achieve a smooth transition back to the community after discharge.
