Powertrain & Electrical Verification Engineering & Operations Leader

What you’ll do…

• Lead Test Engineering and Execution for the following Labs and Teams:
  • Allen Park Test Labs (APTL) – Emissions compliance, Fuel Economy, In-use, and Compliance Demonstration 
  • Vehicle Emissions Research Lab (VERL) – Advanced emissions development
  • Axle, Transmission, Driveline Lab (ATDL) – Electric / Hybrid, axle, driveline, and transmission development 
  • Engine Laboratories Department (ELD) – Engine mapping, durability, and calibration development 
  • Research Innovation Center / Gas Turbine Lab (RIC / GTL) – Advanced combustion and motor development  
  • Electric Powertrain Integration Center (EPIC) – HV battery cell, array, pack testing
  • Vehicle Integration and Systems Engineering (VISE) – Electrical / Software and EMC verification
  • Advanced Engineering Center (AEC) – P/T and Body NVH
  • Wind Tunnels / Rolling Road Wind Tunnel (DTF) — Climate chamber, aerodynamics, and thermal management
  • Powertain Fuel Systems Lab (PFSL) – Air Induction, fuel systems, and HV battery non-destructive testing
• Leading strategic testing hardware, methodology including development, capacity planning, and project execution for Internal Combustion Engine (ICE), Electric Vehicle (EV), and Hybrid platforms
• Managing all calibration, certification, electrical hardware / software, EMC, and high-voltage battery lab test execution in support of vehicle milestone completion
• Designing, integrating, and supporting TPV / Mule builds, DCV builds, and Software Verification fleets
• Lead NA VEV Quality Improvement focusing on Design Verification (DV) methodology innovation and 100% Design Failure detection
• Lead Design Verification Efficiency process including Lean testing / engineering and Road->Lab->Math progression
• Manage Capital Improvement Budget of ~$100M+ / year and Operating Expense Budget of ~$140M / year
• Manage labor force consisting of over 400+ Ford Direct and Purchased Service technicians, supervisors, engineers, and (4) LL5s

• Demonstrated Leadership in previous positions with increasing responsibility for delivery and results           
• Strong knowledge of the prototype process, powertrain, electrical, and software testing as well as working knowledge of design verification methods
• Strong interface and problem resolution skills; cross functional knowledge
• Facility management experience necessary to improve quality, safety and sustainability
• Global Product Verification knowledge and experience to rationalize facilities across the globe (hardware, test operating systems, maintenance contracts, calibration)
• Experience managing and developing teams which develop strategic goals, implements plans, and executes on-time, with quality

Key Deliverables Within Next 12-24 Months:

• Drive Quality Feedback Loop acceleration
• Lean Engineering and Test Operations efficiencies within directly responsible labs and methodology deployment across global VEV organization
• Capital Projects for all P/T & E/E labs for Emissions Compliance, Non-Destructive HV battery, and Electrical / Software Breadboard automation
• Identify future test capability and organization needs and plan / execute implementation
• Defining next generation information management systems needs and implementation plans

You’ll have…

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Master of Science in Engineering & MBA preferred
• Broad Product Development Operations / Engineering / Test experience particularly in project management, quality improvement, Lean / Efficiency, and sustainability
• Global testing knowledge and experience to rationalize/optimize test facility equipment and footprint; specific build and T&D experience (scheduling, capability, capacity, flexibility, etc.)
• Financial knowledge and Operations Management. Process discipline and orientation; roadmap and efficiency mindset; resource management, including staffing, funding, training, and development – flexibility to deliver to workload challenges
• Engineering and business leadership experience over diverse, global initiatives
• Strong oral and written skills for presentations to senior management
• Ability to manage high-complexity in diverse situations; heavy focus on process improvements (# error states/escape points – escalation and resolution)
• Strong planning and execution skills with a strong discipline on global delivery
