Position Summary

At Eastern Long Island Hospital, the Network System Administrator position requires the incumbent to provide technical support to the Practices. This position is essential to ensure efficient operation of the office. The Information Systems Technician will diagnose and troubleshoot IT related issues.

Duties of the Network System Administrator include the following but are not limited to:

  • Assist in network design and implementation.
  • Provide network support with a variety of operating systems.
  • Install and configure computer network equipment.
  • Maintain network connectivity of all computer workstations.
  • Provide network support to users.
  • Maintain servers and associated hardware, applications, services, and settings.
  • Develop and monitor policies for the use of network resources.
  • Implement and manage disaster recovery and back-up.
  • Evaluate and recommend security improvements and system upgrades.
  • Monitor network to ensure optimal performance.
  • Create and maintain network users/permissions.
  • Test release of products to minimize user impact and ensure compatibility.
  • Create technical support documentation for systems and applications.
  • Assess client’s technical requirements for projects and go-live events.
  • Diagnose issues with OS, security configurations, and hardware configurations. 
  • Work with fellow technicians, help desk personnel, and end users as needed to resolve issues and tasks assigned.
  • Participate in IT projects and provide knowledge transfer and status updates to team and management. Provide updates to management and technical guidance and documentation to coworkers.
  • Provide insight and testing on new hardware and software that the organization may use in the future. Travel required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  Associate’s degree in a computer related field or, in lieu of a degree, at least 3 years of IT support experience.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Detail oriented and strong analytical and organizational skills. Must have excellent communication skills. Fundamental knowledge of networking concepts. Ability to work independently under minimal supervision. Knowledge of computing infrastructures. Familiarity with server management and monitoring tools. Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving ability.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in computer related field.  Healthcare IT experience. Project Management experience. Advanced IT certification such as MCITP, MCSA or MCSE. Apple iOS and Window OS experience. 

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, staff and medical providers. The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. This position is largely sedentary and requires the employee to remain stationary for a majority of the day. Any additional physical demands will be outlined and provided by management.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBEILH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Your total compensation goes beyond the number in your paycheck!

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Eastern Long Island’s Employee Health Services *
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).

Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The Human Resources department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

As part of Stony Brook Medicine, Stony Brook Eastern Long Island Hospital (SBELIH) combines the best in academic and community medicine, improving access to advanced medical care for residents of the North Fork and Shelter Island. With 70 beds, SBELIH is Suffolk County’s first hospital, serving the North Fork since 1905.
