Position Description:

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Louisville invites applications for a Laboratory Instrument Specialist I.

Duties include:

  • Maintaining, repairing, training and instruction on the use of scientific instrumentation (spectroscopy, electrochemistry, chromatography, and mass spectrometry), electronic devices, computers, general laboratory equipment (pH meters, balances, heaters, ovens, etc.), and infrastructure (house vacuum, house air, house nitrogen, back up electrical)

  • Planning and development of teaching laboratories.

  • Developing and testing experimental designs, sampling techniques, and analytical methods.

  • Preparing reagents and solutions for chemistry teaching labs in collaboration with stockroom manager.

  • Maintaining safety standards and work with stockroom manager on control of supplies and reagents.

  • Assisting with periodic safety audits.

The position includes up to eight credit hours per year of undergraduate course instruction as senior instructor and other related duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in Chemistry with 5 years of minimum related work experience.
