Content Area or Department Brief Description:

Work in this area addresses systems for children aged birth to eight and their families. Projects in this area build the capacity of state-level or large-scale mixed-delivery early childhood systems through cross-sector, integrated service delivery, system-building efforts, and initiatives to support the whole child, whole family, and whole community.

Position Overview:

As an Early Childhood Specialist, you will provide professional development and technical assistance to support early childhood professionals throughout the country (extensive travel required). This position is critical in delivering research-based educational practices through assessment and curriculum that address a wide variety of needs for early childhood professionals. The Early Childhood Specialist will provide professional development training and webinars on the Desired Results Developmental Profile, on the publication “Creating Equitable Early Learning Environments for Young Boys of Color: Disrupting Disproportionate Outcomes” as well as a variety of early childhood topics with a focus on supporting learning and development of children ages 0-kindergarten. Additionally, this person will support early childhood professionals through the projects’ customer service portal.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and deliver professional development series.
    • Conduct training for early childhood professionals that demonstrate equitable and inclusive practices.
    • Conduct training on the Desired Results System.
    • Conduct trainings on the publication “Creating Equitable Early Learning Environments for Young Boys of Color: Disrupting Disproportionate Outcomes”.
    •  Deliver online modules using standards for adult learners and instructional design for online learning.
  • Support the development and design of professional development materials.
    • Contribute to the development of project materials with state and federal initiatives.
    • Contribute to the development of video and/or images for use in products.
  • Manage work to adhere to project timelines.
  • Work with the customer service team to support early childhood professionals using the DRDP through the customer service portal.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field. 
  • Bilingual and bi-literate preferred.
  • Teaching experience (Infant/toddler/preschool/Kindergarten) or equivalent.
  • Experience presenting to large groups.
  • Ability to travel extensively (60% – 80%).
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. 
  • Ability to interact with a variety of internal and external groups and clients. 
  • High comfort level with ambiguity.
  • Knowledge of accessibility requirements is preferred.
  • Experience/coursework for the digital delivery of professional development is preferred.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The full salary range for this position, WestEd level 9 is $79,600 to $124,400 but WestEd does not typically hire at or near the top of the salary range. The typical hiring range for this role is $79,600 to $99,500. The actual offer takes into account multiple factors, including but not limited to education, experience, internal equity, and other organizational needs. 

In addition to the base salary, benefits include: 

· 15% contribution toward retirement effective day 1 of employment
