Permanent Full-Time position based in LAX
Pay range $100,000 – $130,000USD per year

The Design Engineer – Aircraft Structures / Mechanical Systems is responsible for providing operational design support for the Qantas Group Fleet as well as managing small design projects. In this role you will provide aircraft operational and production design support, developing repairs and authorisation to continue in service under the Qantas CASR 21.J Design Organisation approval. You will be an expert in your Structures/Mechanical field and exercise a mature professional engineering judgment in a broad range of fields.
You’ll have –
Professional Engineering degree qualifications in Aeronautical, Mechanical or equivalent.
Extensive experience with development and approval of engineering instructions for repairs and modifications to Boeing or Airbus aircraft in the Line maintenance / MRO type environment.
Extensive experience with compliance finding/verification to FAA FAR Part 25 and EASA CS-25 design standards.
Thorough working knowledge of CASR Part 21 and FAA regulations. An understanding of EASA regulations is desirable.
Current or former Design Engineering Representative (DER) or ODA Unit Member (UM) would be highly regarded.
Current experience in assessing defects to aircraft mechanical systems and structural damage to Part 25 certified aircraft (including a working knowledge of Airbus and Boeing SRMs/AMMs/OEM CMMs as applicable), developing and approving repairs and modifications to address aircraft defects.
Strong customer focus capable of managing multiple stakeholder expectations and delivering outcomes under significant time constraint.
Proven organizational and communication skills, with an ability to translate complex technical information clearly and concisely.
Comprehensive understanding of Qantas and customer maintenance operations.
Hold US citizenship or be eligible to work in the US.
